Xbox One Price Drop: Good Marketing Tactic
Microsoft is riding a nice wave of positive news and recent sales with the Xbox One. The video game and multimedia console had a great holiday season. According to data from the NPD and Xbox.com, the Xbox One was the best-selling console in the United States for the months of November and December. In a strong publicity move, Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One is receiving a price drop. The console is now available for $349.99, only at US retailers, for a special promotional price. Even if the price drop for the Xbox One is only a temporary, seasonal price, it is a brilliant business move on the part of Microsoft.
With the recent strong sales figure for the Xbox One, Microsoft and Xbox finally are riding a huge wave of good press. There is some positive momentum for the Xbox One right now. The promotional price drop of $349.99 is a tremendous way to build off the positive news and momentum from the holiday sales for the Xbox One. It seems that ever since the respective launches of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, Xbox One has been playing catch-up. Microsoft had to endure harsh criticism. Fans even took to referring to the console by a rather unfortunate nickname, the “X-BONE.” Now, in light of recent events, the momentum appears to be shifting back in Microsoft’s favor. The revelation of a price drop, coming off the news of the high sale for November and December, makes Microsoft like the equivalent of Tefl-Andre from FXX’s The League.
The price drop also comes at an opportune time for Microsoft. There are many huge exclusive release planned for the Xbox One throughout 2015. These games include: Quantum Break; Halo 5: Guardians; Rise of the Tomb Raider; and the new Crackdown game. In short, with a promotional price of $349.99, now is the time for players and gamers to pick up the Xbox One. In addition, player do not have to worry about the Kinect issue, since it is no longer automatically being packed in with the Xbox One.
Regardless of personal preference of consoles, it is hard to deny that Microsoft, with Xbox One, has momentum on its side. In conclusion, the price drop is a positive and strong choice by the Microsoft brass. Xbox One is now available for $349.99 at preferred retailers in the United States.
