Evolve: New CG Cinematic Intro Looks Fantastic
The wait is nearly over for Evolve, the impressive looking and hotly anticipated new game from Turtle Rock Studios. The online cooperative and competitive multiplayer shooter is due out in a few weeks. To raise anticipation, 2K Games and Turtle Rock Studios have released a new CG cinematic video for the game. The latest video happens to be Evolve’s opening CG cinematic, which depicts a group of monster hunters doing a deadly tango with the beast known as Goliath. Evolve’s videos have all been impressive, and this one is certainly no exception.
The video has no dialogue. It is all CG cinematic video, and it is a fun crash course demonstration of what the game is all about. There is a group of varied hunters who go into the wilderness of human colonies to hunt down a monster. This time the monster is Goliath. The footage does a great job of showing the hunters’ varied abilities and skills. In order to defeat a monster, the team members must work together and in tandem to defeat the game’s various monsters. Of course, the added and fantastic bonus to the game is that one player gets to play as one of the giant monsters. It was very satisfying to play as Goliath and the Kraken for the game’s demos. I am also looking forward to getting play as the other monsters, the Wraith and the Behemoth.
The trailer did a good job of showcasing and characterizing the individual hunters. One nice feature that Turtle Rock Studios did with Evolve is that all the playable human characters have been individualized, and all have names and backstories. The human characters are not nameless, such as “Medic No. 1″ or “Trapper No. 2.” Specifically, the playable medic character, Valerie “Val” Wolski, received quite a bit of spotlight in the CG cinematic and quite a few cool action shots. The Support class hunter, Hank, had some fun comedy in the video with his humorous cigar chomping antics. Hank seems to be the type who has done and seen it all, and he is just along for the ride and some nice cigars.
The video successfully raised my anticipation level for Evolve. I am especially looking forward to the single-player plans Evolve has for the game and how that could play out. Evolve finally hits the shelves on February 10. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
